Khyber Pakhtunkhwa delivers impressive performance, DG sports distributes prizes

PESHAWAR: The 7th National Junior (Male & Female) Karate Championship 2026 concluded with a grand closing ceremony in Peshawar, where young athletes from across the country competed in various weight categories and individual kata events.
In the women’s competitions, Balochistan secured the overall title with four gold medals. Punjab finished second with two gold, three silver and one bronze medal while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa claimed third position with two silver and four bronze medals.
Director General Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Tashfeen Haider, graced the closing ceremony as chief guest and distributed prizes among the winners. He was accompanied by Pakistan Karate Federation Chairman Muhammad Jahangir, Chief Executive Andleeb Sandhu, Project Director Arbab Faiz, Assistant Director and Coordinator of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Karate Association Shah Faisal, Vice President Khalid Noor, Secretary Asim Qureshi and other distinguished guests.
In the men’s category of the championship, organized by the Directorate of Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan emerged as overall champions with three gold, one silver, and two bronze medals. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa finished runners-up with two gold, one silver and two bronze medals while Punjab secured third place with one gold, three silver and two bronze medals.
Among the standout performers from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were Yahya Khan (gold medal, under-50kg), Abu Bakar (gold medal, over-68kg), Sartaj Gul (silver medal, individual kata), Hina Khan (silver medal, over-59kg), and Areeba Farooq (silver medal, under-43kg). Bronze medals were won by Iman Afridi, Fatima Noor, Nazia, Adil Sami and Sudais Afridi.
Athletes and officials praised the organizers and the Pakistan Karate Federation for the successful conduct of the championship and expressed hope that such events would further promote the sport of karate across the country.
