PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tennis Association will organize the Inter-Club Jashan-e-Azadi Tennis Championship 2026 on August 14 to celebrate Pakistan’s Independence Day and promote tennis among young players across the province.
The championship will formally commence with an opening ceremony at 8:00 AM on August 14 at the Tennis Court. A special Independence Day cake-cutting ceremony will also be held before the start of the tournament.
Young tennis players aged between 9 and 19 years will participate in the championship. Each team will consist of four players. The players and teams securing first, second and third positions will be awarded cash prizes, trophies and certificates.
In a special tribute to the legends of KP tennis, the participating teams have been named after renowned tennis players of the province who have passed away. The names include Haji Malik Umra Khan, Haji Atlas Khan, Haji Kachkol Khan, Haji Miya Khan, Haji Maqbool Khan, Inayat Ullah Khan, Dolat Khan, Awal Khan, Royaz Khan, Kamal Khan, Imtaiz Khan, Sardar Khan, Khan Saeed, Kachkol Khan and Haji Banoor Khan.
President of the KP Tennis Association, DIG Muhammad Saleem Khan Marwat, said that the championship aims to provide young players with a competitive platform, promote tennis at the grassroots level and honour the valuable contributions of legendary tennis players of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The closing ceremony will be held at 6:00 PM on the same day, where the winning players and teams will be recognized and awarded cash prizes, trophies and certificates.
The KP Tennis Association has invited sports enthusiasts and young tennis players to participate in and support the Independence Day celebrations through the spirit of sports, unity and youth talent.
