PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Lacrosse Federation, in collaboration with the Mardan Divisional Lacrosse Association, organized the Jashn-e-Azadi Women’s Lacrosse Tournament at the Mardan Sports Complex as part of Pakistan’s Independence Day celebrations. Mardan emerged as champions after producing an impressive performance in the final, defeating their opponents 6-4 to lift the title.

A total of 46 female players representing different district teams participated in the tournament. The players displayed excellent skills, enthusiasm, determination and sportsmanship throughout the competition, while Mardan put up a strong performance in the final to secure victory. The tournament was held under the supervision of Pakistan Lacrosse Federation Director Women Development Ms Gul Pari. SSP Mardan Ms Maria Mustafa attended the event as chief guest. Regional Sports Officer Mardan Sajid Khan, Director Sports Women College Mardan Ms Gulnar (Retd.), Director Sports Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Peshawar Ms Salma Faiz, National Coach Ms Nighat, international lacrosse player Ms Sawera Afzal, international footballer Ms Asma Tahseen, social worker Murad Khan and other distinguished personalities were also present.

A large number of family members of the players, spectators and people from different walks of life attended the matches at the sports complex, reflecting growing public interest in women’s sports. At the closing ceremony, chief guest SSP Ms Maria Mustafa and other distinguished guests distributed prizes and certificates among the winning team, participating players and officials. Pakistan Lacrosse Federation Secretary General Engineer Taifoor Zareen congratulated the Mardan team on winning the championship and said that organizing such competitions for women not only promotes lacrosse but also provides young players with opportunities to showcase their talent.

He said the Pakistan Lacrosse Federation was committed to promoting lacrosse at the grassroots level across the country, particularly by providing women and young players with more opportunities for training, competitive exposure and representation at international events. He also appreciated Ms Gul Pari, the Mardan Divisional Lacrosse Association, sports authorities, coaches, officials, volunteers, players’ families and all supporters for their contributions towards the successful organization of the tournament.
