World Sports Journalists Day marked by KP Sports Writers Association

PESHAWAR: Former World Squash Champion and legend Qamar Zaman has said that celebrating World Sports Journalists Day through the joint efforts of the Pakistan Sports Writers Federation and Sports Writers Association Khyber Pakhtukhwa is a commendable initiative. He expressed these views while addressing a ceremony held in Peshawar to mark the occasion.
Like other parts of the country and the world, World Sports Journalists Day was celebrated in Peshawar with the collaboration of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Writers Association and Pakistan Sports Writers Federation. Acting President of the Sports Writers Association Imran Yousafzai, Secretary General Shahid Afridi, Shakeel-ur-Rehman, Arshad Dar, Qadir Khan, Hashim Khan, Ijaz Butt, Kaleem Qureshi, Azmatullah, Farhan Khalil along with KP Police Cricket Team Coach Muhammad Tanveer and many association members were present at the event.
Qamar Zaman congratulated all participants and highlighted the significant role of the media in sports promotion.Back in the 1970s, we were advised to bring media and sponsors together to support sports. I was also part of the foundation of the KP Sports Writers Association and today as sports move into the digital era the role of sports writers from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in bringing athletes to the forefront is truly admirable, he added.
Earlier Acting President Imran Yousafzai and Secretary General Shahid Afridi said that World Sports Journalists Day has been observed globally since 1994.The purpose of this day is to acknowledge the efforts of sports journalists, appreciate their services and inspire the younger generation to pursue careers in sports journalism, they said. They emphasized that in today’s digital age it is essential for sports journalists to adapt to modern tools and trends. Alongside the government’s support media coverage has played a vital role in reviving and developing sports grounds across the country, they added.
It is worth mentioning that ceremonies to celebrate World Sports Journalists Day are being held regularly in Peshawar, Islamabad, Lahore, Quetta, and Karachi.
