PESHAWAR: Preparations for the National Junior Championship 2026 are in full swing in Peshawar. The championship will officially commence on June 7 at the Qayyum Sports Complex, where Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sohail Afridi, will inaugurate the event in a grand ceremony.
Speaking to the media, Advisor to the Chief Minister on Sports and Youth Affairs, Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand, said that a total of 952 talented male and female athletes from all four provinces and various government departments will participate in the championship. Director General Sports Tashfeen Haider and Director Operations Jamshaid Baloch were also present on the occasion.
The championship is being organized by the Directorate General of Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and will feature competitions in Squash, Table Tennis, Athletics, Badminton, Karate, and Volleyball. Separate events have been arranged for male and female athletes in all disciplines, while volleyball competitions will be held only in the men’s category.
Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand urged young athletes to consider the championship a valuable opportunity to showcase their hidden talents and abilities. He emphasized that participants should strive to bring honor not only to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but also to their respective provinces and to Pakistan as a whole.
He further stated that under the leadership of the Chief Minister, the provincial government is utilizing all available resources to provide equal and quality sporting opportunities to the youth. “This event is not merely a sporting competition; it is an excellent platform for bringing together talented young athletes from across Pakistan and helping them develop their potential,” he said.
The opening ceremony will be held on June 7, 2026, at the Peshawar Sports Complex, while competitions in various sports will continue from June 8 to June 10. The squash events will be held earlier, from June 3 to June 5.
