PESHAWAR: Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Shahab Ali Shah here yesterday directed that all preparations for the Shandur polo festival should be finalized as soon as possible.
He stated that the festival will be held from June 11 to June 13 at the Shandur polo ground.
He expressed these views while chairing a high-level meeting regarding the organization of the event. The meeting was attended by Secretary Finance Kamran Afridi, Secretary Tourism Saadat Hasan, Secretary Administration Shahid Suhail, Additional Secretary Finance Ikhlaq Ahmad, Director General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority Shehryar Mahmood, DG Aviation Atif Khan, Secretary Home Usman Mehsud, Commissioner Malakand, DPOs and Deputy Commissioners of Lower and Upper Chitral, officials of the National Highway Authority (NHA), and representatives of other relevant institutions.
During the meeting, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority gave a detailed briefing on the festival preparations. The Chief Secretary directed all departments to further improve mutual coordination and to accelerate work on access roads. He also instructed the NHA to ensure the timely availability of heavy machinery at locations affected by floodwaters.
The Chief Secretary emphasized maintaining close coordination with officials of Gilgit-Baltistan to ensure the successful organization of the festival.
He further directed that construction and repair work on roads in Lower and Upper Chitral be expedited, and that a temporary bridge be installed at Shehdas until a permanent concrete bridge is constructed to facilitate public movement. He also instructed that the festival be effectively promoted.
