PESHAWAR: College of Home Economics University of Peshawar organized an awareness seminar in connection with World Hypertension Day, aimed at creating awareness among the public, particularly youth, about hypertension, its early diagnosis, preventive measures, and the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
A large number of health experts, teachers, students, and people from different walks of life attended the seminar.

Principal of the college Professor Dr. Shazia Shah seminar organizer Dr. Aleena Badshah speaker Dr. Amber Ashraf and senior nutritionist Asma Waheed were also present on the occasion.
Addressing the seminar Dr. Aleena Badshah said that hypertension has become one of the fastest-growing diseases worldwide and a large number of people remain unaware that they are suffering from it. She termed hypertension a silent killer as it can seriously damage the heart, kidneys, brain, and other organs without showing obvious symptoms. She urged the youth to adopt a balanced diet, proper sleep, regular exercise, and stress-free routines to protect themselves from the disease.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Amber Ashraf highlighted that unhealthy eating habits, excessive fast food consumption, mental stress, smoking, lack of physical activity, and unhealthy lifestyles are among the major causes of hypertension.

She emphasized that regular blood pressure checkups and preventive measures can help control complications associated with the disease. She added that public awareness regarding health issues is the need of the hour.
Senior Nutritionist Asma Waheed said that nutrition plays a vital role in maintaining human health and adopting a balanced diet can help prevent many diseases.
She advised students to include fruits, vegetables, and natural foods in their daily diet while making physical exercise a regular part of life.
During the seminar, participants were provided detailed information regarding the symptoms, prevention, and treatment of hypertension. Awareness material was also distributed among the attendees, while students actively participated and asked various questions from the experts.
At the end of the seminar, Principal Professor Dr. Shazia Shah thanked the organizers, guest speakers, and participants for their contributions. She stressed the importance of promoting a healthy lifestyle among the younger generation and said that such awareness programs in educational institutions play a significant role in building a healthy society. Later, the principal distributed certificates among the guest speakers in recognition of their valuable services and participation in the seminar.
