Cash Awards Announced, Rs 600,000 for Gold Medalists, Rs 400,000 for Silver and Rs 300,000 for Bronze Medalists
Sports facilities will be ensured in all districts of the province in line with the directives of the Chief Minister, says Taj Muhammad Tarand
PESHAWAR: A prestigious ceremony was held at the Peshawar Sports Complex to honor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa athletes who delivered outstanding performances at the 35th National Games held in Karachi. The Special Guest on the occasion was Advisor to the Chief Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Taj Muhammad Tarand. Addressing the gathering the Special Guest announced cash awards on behalf of the provincial government, Rs 600,000 for gold medalists, Rs 400,000 for silver medalists and Rs 300,000 for athletes who won bronze medals. Among those present were Secretary Sports Muhammad Asif, Director General Sports Tashfeen Haider, President of the Provincial Olympic Association Humayun Zafar, Secretary Provincial Olympic Association Zulfiqar Butt, Shah Faisal, Jamshaid Baloch and other prominent figures associated with sports.

Congratulating the athletes Taj Muhammad Tarand said that despite limited resources these heroes showcased exceptional performances and brought pride to the province. He added that athletes from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa possess immense talent and have the capability to compete with and defeat athletes from other provinces. He further stated that in accordance with the directives of the Chief Minister, sports facilities will be ensured in all districts of the province. He informed that ice hockey competitions will be held in Chitral in January, along with the organization of the Under-21 Games during the same month. Additionally in 2026, Inter-School Games, special games for minority communities and Junior Games aimed at talent identification will be organized. Traditional and regional sports competitions will also be arranged to promote the cultural and regional identity of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Taj Muhammad Tarand also announced that medalists of the Quaid-e-Azam Games will be awarded scholarships. He shared that the swimming pool at Peshawar Sports Complex is being upgraded to remain operational in both winter and summer seasons, while work on the athletics track is progressing rapidly and will be completed soon. Speaking on the occasion, Secretary Sports Muhammad Asif and Director General Sports Tashfeen Haider stated that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa athletes performed better in the 35th National Games compared to previous editions and a comprehensive strategy is being formulated for future events. Addressing the athletes, they said that continued hard work is essential while providing support and facilities is the responsibility of the department. Concrete steps will be taken to revive sports grounds across all districts.

It is pertinent to mention that at the 35th National Games held in Karachi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa secured a total of 69 medals, including 5 gold, 18 silver and 46 bronze medals. The province won gold medals in Karate, Bodybuilding, Table Tennis, Sailing, and Judo; silver medals in Taekwondo, Squash, Fencing, Wushu, and Boxing; and bronze medals in Handball, Baseball, Weightlifting, Kabaddi, Wrestling, Athletics and Tennis.
