PESHAWAR: Azan Ahmed’s four-wicket haul and a brisk 40 with the bat helped Rawalpindi U17 secure a 13-run lead against Lahore Blues U17 on day one of the two-day National U17 Cup triangular stage match at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad on Saturday.
After opting to bat first in the match, which is being live-streamed on PCB’s YouTube channel and Tapmad in Pakistan, Lahore Blues were bowled out for 167 in 50.3 overs. Daud Tauqir Rana top-scored with a 139-ball 93, hitting 10 fours and two sixes, while Mohammad Essa was the other notable contributor with 35 off 87 balls, including three boundaries.
For Rawalpindi, Azan returned figures of four for 28 in 10.3 overs. Mohammad Ibrahim, Mohammad Yasir and Sher Wali Khan grabbed two wickets each. In turn, Rawalpindi were 180 for nine in 39 overs at stumps, taking a 13-run lead. Batting at number four, Azan top-scored with 40 off 36 balls, striking five fours and two sixes. Amir Khan (36, 44b, 4x4s, 1×6), who was dismissed leg-before wicket off the final ball of the day, added 55 runs for the ninth wicket with Mohammad Ibrahim (24 not out, 36b, 2x4s).
For Lahore Blues, right-arm leg-spinner Aliyan Qaiser was the pick of the bowlers with four for 45 in 13 overs, while Mohammad Yaqoob took two for 49 in 12 overs.
