More than 5,000 male and female athletes to participate in 35 men’s and 18 women’s events, DG Sports

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Under-21 Games will begin on January 20 in Peshawar. More than 5,000 athletes and officials will participate in this mega sports event of the province. Competitions will be held in 35 men’s and 18 women’s sports disciplines. These views were expressed by Director General Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Tashfeen Haider, while speaking to the media at the Peshawar Sports Complex. Director Sports Operations Jamshed Baloch, Project Director Arbab Faiz, Chief Coach Shafqatullah and Administrator Yousaf Afridi were also present on the occasion. DG Sports stated that the opening ceremony of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Under-21 Games will be held at the historic Imran Khan Cricket Stadium, where Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi will inaugurate the event. He added that, on the special directives of Advisor to Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Taj Muhammad Tarand, and under the supervision of Secretary Sports Muhammad Asif, the trial process for all games has been successfully completed at the regional level. He further informed that the winning team in team events will be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 100,000, while the runner-up team will receive Rs. 50,000. Special competitions for persons with disabilities will also be organized, including Wheelchair Cricket and Boccia. According to DG Sports, all arrangements for this mega sports event have been finalized, and athletes will be provided daily allowances and sports kits in a timely manner. Men’s competitions will be held at Peshawar Sports Complex, Hayatabad Sports Complex, Kohat Sports Complex and Mardan Sports Complex. Women’s competitions will take place at Abdul Wali Khan Sports Complex Charsadda, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Peshawar, Peshawar Board Ground and Hayatabad Sports Complex. Men’s sports disciplines in the Under-21 Games include Badminton, Table Tennis, Squash, Athletics, Volleyball, Karate, Football, Gymnastics, Throw Ball, Basketball, Boxing, Taekwondo, Hockey, Judo, Handball, Wushu, Archery, Jujitsu, Tennis, Weightlifting, Wrestling, Snooker, Lacrosse, Teqball, Mas Wrestling, Futsal, Kickboxing, Bodybuilding, Full Contact Karate, Kabaddi, Muay Thai, Baseball, Tug of War, Rugby and Zorkhana. Women’s sports disciplines include Badminton, Table Tennis, Squash, Athletics, Volleyball, Karate, Basketball, Taekwondo, Judo, Hockey, Netball, Cricket, Archery, Handball, Jujitsu, Throw Ball, Futsal and Softball. Speaking on the occasion, Director Sports Operations Jamshed Baloch said that players will be provided with accommodation, TA/DA, uniforms, shoes and other necessary facilities. He stated that this will be the largest sports event in the history of the province, with more than 5,000 male and female athletes taking part. He further added that, besides the Under-21 Games, several other sports activities will be organized, including Derajat events, Horse and Cattle Show in Peshawar, Jashn-e-Hazara, Sports Festival for Orphan Children, Buner Gul D Number Festival, traditional sports, Polo, Ice Hockey and Skating competitions. In addition, six National Junior Championships will be held, along with Transgender Sports Events, Inter-Madrassa competitions, events for persons with disabilities, and Minority Sports Festivals.
