
PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Badminton Federation has entrusted Peshawar with the hosting of the National Badminton Championship after 26 years. Organized by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Badminton Association, the championship will commence in Peshawar from October 24, with teams from provinces and departments participating.
Last time Peshawar hosted the Badminton Championship in 1999, which was won by Wajid Ali Khan, who is currently the Secretary of Pakistan Badminton Federation. It was on his request that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was given the hosting rights this time.
Meanwhile, a delegation of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Badminton Association, led by Chairman Sajjad Khan Mohmand, met with Tashfeen Haider, Director General of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Board. The delegation included President Bilal Khan, General Secretary Mian Sadaqat Shah, Yahya, Hayatullah, and Masood.
During the meeting, matters regarding the organization of the National Badminton Championship were discussed. The delegation emphasized that hosting the championship would be important for promoting badminton in the province and expressed pride in receiving hosting rights after 26 years. They also requested cooperation from the DG Sports.
The DG Sports termed the hosting of the championship in the province a positive development and assured full cooperation in preparations and arrangements for the event.
