Pakistan Army win Women’s title, Pakistan WAPDA clinch Men’s crown
PESHAWAR: The team events of the 62nd National Badminton Championship have concluded, with Pakistan WAPDA and Pakistan Army delivering impressive performances to secure the titles.
In the men’s team event final, Pakistan WAPDA defeated Pakistan Army by 3–1. In the first singles, WAPDA’s Muhammad Ali Larosh overcame Army’s Anjum Bashir in straight games 21–10, 21–13. The second singles saw Irfan Saeed of WAPDA beat Muqit Tahir of Pakistan Army in a closely contested match 21–10, 23–21, 21–19, giving WAPDA a decisive edge. In the doubles, Pakistan Army’s pair Hasnain and Zulqarnain defeated WAPDA’s Aamir Saeed and Owais Zaheed 21–13, 21–12, but WAPDA maintained their overall lead to claim the men’s team title.
In the women’s team event final, Pakistan Army edged past Pakistan WAPDA in a thrilling encounter by 3–2. In the first singles, WAPDA’s Mahoor Shehzad defeated Army’s Alija Tariq 22–20, 21–8. The second singles saw Pakistan Army’s Amara Ishtiaq beat WAPDA’s Maryam Hanif 21–18, 21–8, leveling the contest at 1–1.
In the third singles, Army’s Palwasha Bashir defeated Zubaira Islam 21–17, 24–22, 21–19. The first doubles match was won by Pakistan Army’s Amara Ishtiaq and Palwasha Bashir, who beat WAPDA’s Zubaira Islam and Huma Javed 21–10, 21–13.
In the second doubles, WAPDA’s Mahoor Shehzad and Farzana Ali defeated Army’s Alija Tariq and Samia Tariq 21–19, 21–17, 21–9, but Pakistan Army secured the overall victory to lift the women’s team trophy.
