PESHAWAR: A four-day sports festival for street children will commence on January 21 under the auspices of the Directorate General of Sports, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. More than 500 children from various welfare institutions across the province are expected to participate in the event. The opening ceremony will be held on January 21 at 11 a.m. at the Model Institute for Street Children, Charsadda Road, Peshawar. The Advisor to the Chief Minister for Sports, Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand, will be the chief guest on the occasion. Secretary Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Asif Khan, Director General Sports Tashfeen Haider, Director Operations Jamshed Baloch, and Director Model Institute Sadaqatullah will also be present.
The festival will feature competitions in badminton, hockey, tug of war, musical chairs, volleyball, cricket, futsal, and archery. Children from various organizations working for the welfare of orphans and street children, including Zmung Kor Peshawar, Boys Zmung Kor Abbottabad, Swat Campus Kor, Dera Ismail Khan Campus, Khpal Kor Swat, SOS, Mercy Aghosh, and others, will take part in the competitions. The closing ceremony will be held on January 24 at the Model Institute for Safe Children (Zmung Kor), Charsadda Road, Peshawar.
The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sohail Afridi, will attend as the chief guest and distribute prizes among the participants. According to the organizers, the primary objective of the festival is to identify and promote sports talent among street children and provide them with opportunities to move forward. The event is expected to serve as an important platform for these children to showcase their abilities and potentially represent the province and the country at higher levels in the future.
