PESHAWAR: The 35th National Games held in Karachi, the capital of Sindh, have concluded. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa secured a total of 69 medals including 5 gold, 18 silver and 46 bronze. On the basis of overall medals, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa finished eighth overall and third among the provinces. According to the event-wise details Khyber Pakhtunkhwa athletes won one gold and five bronze medals in karate while in judo they claimed one gold, two silver and five bronze medals.

In bodybuilding the province secured one gold, one silver and two bronze medals. The sailing events yielded one gold, two silver and four bronze medals. Similarly table tennis brought one gold and two bronze medals for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In taekwondo, the province won five silver and nine bronze medals while fencing contributed two silver and two bronze medals. In squash, KP athletes secured two silver and one bronze medal and in wushu they won one silver and two bronze medals. In boxing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa claimed one silver and two bronze medals.

The province also won four bronze medals in tennis and two bronze medals in badminton. Additionally one bronze medal each was secured in handball, baseball, weightlifting, kabaddi, wrestling and athletics. At the conclusion of the National Games, Advisor for Sports and Youth Affairs Taj Muhammad Tarand and DG Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tashfeen Haider congratulated all athletes, coaches and officials on their outstanding performance. They stated that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s performance was commendable and that the province won more medals than in the previous National Games, reflecting significant progress and the growing strength of sports in the province.

They further emphasized the need to build on these successes and address shortcomings based on the National Games results. With greater hard work, dedication and effective planning, they expressed confidence that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa athletes will perform even better in future National Games and continue to bring pride to the country. It is noteworthy that in the 34th National Games held in Quetta in 2023, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa won a total of 49 medals, including four gold, six silver, and 39 bronze.
