PESHAWAR: There is an urgent need for measures to promote swimming in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Coaching camps will be organized in all divisions to search for new talent. The Independence Cup will be held on the auspicious occasion of August 14 and the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Swimming Gold Cup in October. These views were expressed by the newly elected President of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Captain (R) Khalid Mahmood while addressing the Provincial Swimming Association meeting in Peshawar. Former Swimming Association President Asif Orakzai, Chief Coach of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Directorate Shafqatullah and representatives of all divisions were present on the occasion. In the meeting, the newly elected President Khalid Mahmood also announced the new cabinet, according to which Javed Marwat will be the General Secretary, Finance Secretary Arshad Orakzai, Vice Presidents Alina Saeed and Hasina Qazi, while Joint Secretary Imran is included. In his address In the newly elected President Khalid Mahmood thanked Asif Orakzai for his cooperation. He said that Muhammad Asif played an important role in strengthening the Swimming Association. “The aim of the new cabinet is to promote swimming in the province and ensure the welfare of the players, including the provision of hot water in the swimming pool during the winter, and activities throughout the year. “We will sincerely provide all necessary facilities to the swimmers, so that their national performance can be maintained and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is proud.” He said that the training camp of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa players for the Youth Games in Islamabad in September will start from August 20 at the Peshawar Sports Complex, in which players from all divisions will be trained under the supervision of qualified coaches. He said that a meeting will also be held with the Secretary Sports and DG Sports regarding the upgradation of swimming pools established in various sports complexes of the province, providing hot water in winter and increasing the number of swimming coaches.
