BIRMINGHAM: South Africa Champions clinched the 2025 World Championship of Legends (WCL) title in commanding fashion, defeating Pakistan Champions by nine wickets in the final held at Edgbaston.

Chasing 196 for victory, the Proteas side wrapped up the contest with ruthless efficiency, thanks to a sensational century by AB de Villiers.
The much-anticipated clash saw Pakistan Champions opting to bat first after winning the toss. Sharjeel Khan led the charge with an explosive knock of 76 off 44 deliveries, laced with nine boundaries and four sixes. His powerful start laid the foundation for a competitive total, although the middle order couldn’t capitalise as expected.
Pakistan’s innings
Captain Mohammad Hafeez added 17 runs while veteran all-rounder Shoaib Malik chipped in with 20.
The finishing push came from Umar Amin and Asif Ali, who displayed brisk batting in the death overs.
Umar Amin smashed 38 runs from just 19 balls, while Asif Ali remained unbeaten on 28 off 15 balls, pushing the score to 195 for 5.
Wayne Parnell and Hardus Viljoen led the South African bowling attack with two wickets apiece, keeping the scoring in check during key phases of the innings.
De Villiers dominates
In response, South Africa’s run chase was nothing short of a masterclass. AB de Villiers turned back the clock with a breathtaking 120 not out off 60 balls, featuring 12 fours and 7 sixes.
Partnering with JP Duminy, who scored an unbeaten 50 off 28 balls, the duo stitched a match-winning stand.
The only breakthrough for Pakistan came when Saeed Ajmal dismissed Hashim Amla for 18. However, it proved to be a lone highlight in an otherwise dominant South African batting display.
South Africa sealed the final with 9 wickets in hand, lifting the WCL 2025 trophy in style before a packed Birmingham crowd.
