CHITRAL: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Syed Fakhar Jihan, has said that a sports complex would be established in Chitral and assured for the early commencement of the rehabilitation work on the historic Shahi Polo Ground. He stated that the provincial government is committed to promoting regional sports.

He expressed these views while addressing the closing ceremony of the final match of the Pre-Shandur Polo Tournament as the chief guest at Shahi Polo Ground during his visit to Lower Chitral. Member of the Provincial Assembly from Lower Chitral, Fateh-ul-Mulk, also accompanied him on the occasion.
In the final match of the Pre-Shandur Polo Tournament, Chitral Scouts faced off against Chitral A Team, with Chitral A emerging as the winners. A large number of spectators were present to enjoy the thrilling final.
As chief guest, the provincial minister distributed trophies and cash prizes among the players. He handed over a cash prize of PKR 200,000 for the winning team and PKR 100,000 for the runner-up. A tug-of-war competition was also held, for which he gave a prize of PKR 50,000 for the winning team and PKR 30,000 for the runner-up.
Addressing the closing ceremony, Minister Syed Fakhar Jihan said that the provincial government is taking concrete steps to promote sports and aims to regularly hold competitions for regional games. He assured support for athletes and committed to the rehabilitation of all polo grounds in Chitral.
On the occasion, he reiterated the government’s commitment to establishing a sports complex in Chitral and assured that the rehabilitation of the Shahi Polo Ground would commence soon.
